PSL Postponed Amid Coronavirus Outbreak – Officials Confirm

PSL Postponed: The Pakistan Super League (PSL) season five series schedule which was shortened for four days has now been postponed. Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has decided to postpone the remaining matches due to the worsening of the novel coronavirus COVID-19 situation.

The Habib Bank Limited (HBL) Pakistan Super League (PSL) season five is suspended indefinitely until further notice.

The decision was taken by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and PSL franchises, unitedly as it is suspected that one foreign player who has already left the country is suspected to have shown symptoms of the deadly and novel coronavirus COVID-19 and thus PSL Postponed.

Wasim Khan, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief executive, told reporters in Lahore. One overseas player has been potentially suspected to have contacted the novel coronavirus COVID-19. Though the identity of the player cannot be revealed it’s true that the player has already left Pakistan.

PSL Postponed, Official Confirmation

According to a tweet by the official page of the Pakistan Super League (PSL), the matches have been postponed indefinitely. The semi-final match between Multan Sultans Vs Peshawar Zalmi and Karachi Kings Vs Lahore Qalandars which was scheduled for Tuesday and the final match which was to be played on Wednesday has been indefinitely suspended.

Alex Hale’s possible symptoms of coronavirus may be the reason why PSL was postponed.

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has closely monitored the situation and took all the precautionary steps including temperature screening of all the players, allowing players to opt-out of the tournament, holding matches behind closed doors, shortening the event interval, consulting relevant authorities and team owners.

The coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic is an unprecedented situation and the representatives of all the management teams of the various franchises have accepted Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) decision. Thus PSL postponed amid coronavirus outbreak.

The coronavirus COVID-19 outbreak is a global health scare sporting events and all sorts of tournaments are being canceled or postponed to a later date globally.

Under the circumstances postponing the tournament is the right thing to do. In a tweet, Shahid Afridi said that the health and safety of all concerned is the key and that perhaps the decision could have been taken earlier. It is sad to see PSL Postponed but the trophy should be handed over to the table topper.

For the moment, Pakistan and Bangladesh cricket boards have decided to postpone the upcoming Test and ODI series for a later date.
