Islamabad: Millions of Pakistani mobile users data is for sale on Dark Web and the government can’t do anything about it. Specialized cybersecurity services Rewters claims that they stumble across a data dump containing information of 115 million Pakistani mobile phone users currently up for sale on the dark web.
This data leak is going to raise serious questions on the security protocol regarding data protection and privacy in Pakistan.
Rewters discovered the cybercriminal, which is a VIP member of the dark web forum set the price for this data dumb at Bitcoins (BTC) or $2.1 million.
According to the advertisement placed on the dark web describes that the telecom database was freshly hacked this week.
“That data was still being updated as I took the data down. Beautifully organized in a CSV with headers for your pleasure.”
Rewterz’s threat Intelligence team has analyzed samples of the hacked data from the telecom database up for sale on the famous dark web.

The stolen data includes personal information of mobile users such as user name, contact number, residential address, CNIC number, and NTN number.
Moreover, this data can be the result of numerous breaches or a single breach, it’s too early to say at the moment. It is also not clear that if any specific telecom operator or all telecom operators in Pakistan fell a victim of this attack.
It might be possible that these telecoms companies fall short to unveil the breach because they aren’t aware of the hack or have deliberately chosen not to disclose.
It’s concerning for customers and it should be disclosed for customers whose information has been published.

There is a link posted on the Dark Web marketplaces it mainly contains information of private users.
Most of the account belongs to educational institutes, small businesses, and healthcare services.
It has been noted that there is the information of over 352 verified Zoom accounts on the dark web.
Pakistani mobile user’s record on the dark web for sale is something for that telecommunication companies need to ensure a higher level of protection to safeguard personal data.
Organizations in Pakistan are now the new victim of cyber-attacks and privacy protection and confidential data are on risk.
