Balochistan always fighting for its rights has been affected the most by this viral pandemic. Taftan is the town of Balochistan located 633km from Quetta has received thousands of pilgrims returning from Iran, as the Iranian government has refused to keep them, during the past few days.
Conditions of Quarantine Centers in Taftan
The affectees of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) are experiencing mild to moderate respiratory illness and will recover without any special treatment. People having the age of more than 50 years, and those with medical problems like cardiovascular disease, diabetes, respiratory disease, and cancer have more chances of becoming the target of coronavirus (COVID-19).
The plan was to make the camp in the town of Taftan as clean and disinfected quarantine center to restrain the spread of coronavirus from Iran.
Quarantine Facilities In Balochistan, Taftan according to Mohammad Bakir, who lived there for 02 weeks, it was more like a prison with no sanitary measures. Thousands of people are present in close quarters in Taftan, without basic precautionary measures to avoid the spread of the virus.
According to doctors at the camp, even those having the symptoms of coronavirus are not isolated, and there is a severe shortage of doctors and nurses. There is such a lack of medical facilities that the doctors on site are paying for required medicines by themselves.
Health officials of quarantine centers in Balochistan have claimed that 3669 people have been quarantined at the Taftan border.
Quarantine Center at Mian Ghundi
The provincial government of Balochistan has made a quarantine center for the patients suffering from coronavirus disease (COVID-19) at Mian Ghundi in the southwest region of Quetta.
The health department has appointed 154 staff members which include 34 doctors to serve in the Mian Ghundi quarantine center. The same staff is complaining about the facilities provided by the health ministry.
Further, a female staff member said that they have to travel about 2 and a half hours to reach the center from the city and the aim behind all these efforts is to help the patients suffering from this disease but the government is not providing them the basic facilities like masks and drinking water. Quarantine facilities in Balochistan need to be improved.
A patient of coronavirus who was taken to the Mian Ghundi quarantine center by his family told the media that when they reached the center they didn’t find any resources like food, gas, and health care.
Positive Initiatives of the Balochistan Government
Despite all that it would be unwise to neglect the efforts made by the Balochistan government to combat the spread of the novel coronavirus. Quarantine facilities in Balochistan need to be improved.
Due to the imminent threat of coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak in Balochistan, the health department has increased the screening of people who are coming back from Iran in the past few days and those who are in contact with them. According to the health department, the screening of 79568 people has been completed.
The health officials told that the health teams sent to the Taftan border conducted the screening of 47 people of which 05 of them have been shifted to Sheikh Zayed Hospital’s isolation ward. The 04 children with the suspicions of having coronavirus are shifted to Fatima Jinnah Chest hospital.

It was also claimed by the authorities of quarantine centers in Balochistan that they have tested 14 Chinese, working in Eastbay Expressway in Gwadar, and they tested negative.
The provincial government of Balochistan has also declared Quetta’s Sheikh Zayed Hospital and Fatima Jinnah Chest Hospital as quarantine facilities in Balochistan.
