Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) cybercrime wing arrested a Multan Gang. The Gang is arrested over the charge of stealing the sensitive records of National from the database of Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) and National Database and Registry Authority (NADRA). The Multan Gang has also charged with using silicon thumbs for running illegal gateways and transferring funds.
According to Intel Agency, more than 4,600 silicone thumbs of the national are recovered from the gang. The FIA officials also stated that the gang uses these silicon thumbs for the stolen data of the public for many cybercrimes.
The FIA officials affirm that these silicon thumbnails were also used for running illegal gateway exchange and for the transfer of income support program funds.
According to the latest condition of the country and the outbreak through the coronavirus pandemic, there is a growing number of cybercrime cases witnessed. The criminals are trying new ways to loot masses.
In the latest alert, while investigating the way of criminals, the gang said that they approach the citizen by asking an SMS code from him.
It was actually a WhatsApp verification code. After acquiring it, the gang approaches the relatives of the citizen by using his ID. The Gang then demand money transfer through online cash transfer services from the relatives of ID user.
The FIA officials also stated that during the last few days of the Corona Virus pandemic, over 10 percent of a surge in cybercrime cases is reported. It is also noticed that gang members belong to middle-class families.
According to the latest situation of a rise in the cybercrime case, we should make sure to save our personal information. The FIA director said that we should avoid sharing any sort of code with others. It should be dangerous and can cause a massive loss.
