One of India’s most adored film actors, Rishi Kapoor passes away in Mumbai after a long battle with cancer.
Legendary Rishi Kapoor who was best known for his romantic roles has died at the age of 67.
He was part of the Kapoor acting dynasty which has dominated in the Hindi film industry.
The actor had moved to New York for treatment soon after the cancer was detected
He stayed there for treatment for almost a year and returned to India last September.
An official statement from the Kapoor Family
Our dear Rishi Kapoor life has ended peacefully at 8:45 in the morning in hospital after a two-year battle with leukemia.
The doctors and medical staff at the hospital kept them entertained to the last. He was grateful for the love of his fans
“He remained jovial and determined to live to the fullest right through two-years of treatment across two continents”.
Friends, family food, and films remained his focus and everyone met him during this time was amazed at how he did not let his illness get the better of him.
Kapoor’s family urged his fans, who under normal situations would have been likely to pour onto the streets to mourn him.
In this hour of personal loss, we recognize the world id going through a very difficult time. We request you all to follow novel coronavirus social-distancing rules.
“There are numerous restrictions around movement and gathering in public. We would like to request all his fans and well-wishers and friends of the family to please respect the laws that are in force,” the family said.
He would not have it any other way.
Rishi Kapoor belongs to a family of great actors
From his grandfather, Prithviraj Kapoor, father Raj Kapoor, brothers Randhir and Rajeev, to his son, nieces and nephews all have played different roles in films.
He made his debut as a child actor at the age of 16, playing a younger version of his father’s character in the 1970 film “Mera Naam Joker”.
He won the National award for the best child artist category for his debut role. And this film later made a name for himself as a fresh-faced romantic hero.
He was famous for his chocolaty looks, he played the romantic lead in dozens of films for over two decades.
He acted in more than 100 films playing both character and romantic roles and made a successful transition to character roles.
Even with his health problems, he recently announced that he would co-star with Deepika Padukone in a remake of the Hollywood hit “The Intern.”
The actor was generally active on social media, but his movement went quiet around the start of April.
Rishi and Neetu Singh worked together as a successful onscreen couple.
From on-screen romance to off-screen both got married in 1980.
Kapoor is survived by wife Neetu Singh and two children Ranbir Kapoor and Riddhima Kapoor.
