Why Lt Gen Asim Bajwa Replaces Dr.Firdous Ashiq Awan

Former ISPR DG Lt General (R) Asim Bajwa replaces Dr. Firdous Ashiq Awan and is now appointed as the special assistant to Prime Minister Imran Khan.

Senator Shibli Faraz has been appointed as the new Federal Minister of Information and broadcasting.

The development was announced on Monday, former information minister Fawad Chaudhry broke the news on his official Twitter account.

In his tweet he said.

“Truly an honorable and dignified man @shiblifaraz has been appointed new Information minister of Pak, and a brilliant @AsimSBajwa appointed SAPM on information both will make a great team … all the best,”

Earlier in November last year, Asim Bajwa was appointed as the chairman of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor Authority (CPECA), by the government which comes under the planning and development ministry.

Lt Gen Bajwa has served as director-general of Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR)– media and public relations wing of the Pakistan armed forces.

Also, he had served as Commander Southern Command before his retirement.

From 2012 to 2016 he remained the director-general of the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).

Senator Syed Shibli Faraz son of acclaimed (late) poet Ahmed Faraz was serving as Leader of the House in the Senate -Upper House of the Parliament.

He has been a member of the Senate of Pakistan from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa since 2015. 

Why Asim Bajwa replaced Dr.Firdous Ashiq Awan

Last year in April Dr.Firdous Ashiq Awan replaced Fawad Chaudhry and appointed as special assistant to the PM on information broadcasting by Prime Minister.

Now Lt General (R) Asim Bajwa replaces Dr. Firdous Ashiq Awan and appointed as the special assistant to Prime Minister Imran Khan.

It remains unclear why the government chooses to bring about immediate changes to the information ministry and why Asim Bajwa replaced Dr.Firdous.

It also remains unclear if  Dr.Firdous will be assigned another portfolio or not.

Following the decision Dr.Firdous thanked Prime Minister Imran Khan for trusting her in her tweet she said.

“I’m thankful to the prime minister for trusting me,” adding that she tried to fulfill her responsibilities to the best of her abilities.

“The prime minister has the right to decide which player of the team should play on what batting order or which field position,” she added. “I respect the prime minister’s decision.”

She strongly refuted the “baseless allegations in propaganda in various news reports on the media.

However, Media is claiming that she is being removed from her office due to alleged corruption.

She further said: “As a political activist, my mission is the country’s progress and its people’s welfare, which will continue under the prime minister’s leadership.

She congratulates Shibli Faraz and Lt Gen (r) Asim Saleem Bajwa.

Reactions of other Political Figures

Shireen Mazari Human Rights Minister on her tweets congratulated Faraz on becoming the information minister.

She further tweeted, looking forward to seeing him as our government’s face.
